• UP Health System Great Bear Chase

  The Great Bear Chase offers cross country ski races to skiers of all abilities and ages, and is known for its laid-back, friendly atmosphere. Races are held at the Swedetown ski trails in Calumet, Michigan, which receives more than 230 inches of snow each year.   Information about the CDBG application
  
  Charter Township of Calumet is applying for a for a Community Development Block
  Grant (CDBG). On March 27, 2026, The Charter Township of Calumet will hold a Public
  Hearing on the grant application. The hearing will that place at the Township Office,
  25880 Red Jacket Road, Calumet, MI 49913. The hearing will start at 1:00pm est.
  The Charter Township of Calumet proposes to use CDBG funds in the amount of
  $400,000.00 for rehabilitation projects focused on improving the safety and energy
  efficiency of the homes. The improvements could include weatherization, maintenance
  and safety repair, roof replacement, insulation, windows, doors, heating systems, and
  accessibility upgrades. All activities, upon completion, will benefit low-to moderate-
  income households. No persons are expected to be displaced as a result of the
  proposed activities; however, homeowners will be responsible for arranging and funding
  their own temporary relocation if required to complete the repairs. The Charter Township
  of Calumet has not administered prior CDBG funded grants to date, so no prior
  performance data is available.
  Further information, including a copy of The Charter Township of Calumet Master Plan
  and the CDBG application is available for review. The documents can be inspected at
  The Charter Township of Calumet office, 25880 Red Jacket Road, Calumet, MI 49913.
  Citizen views and comments on the proposed application are welcome. The Master
  Plan and the application can be reviewed during normal office hours.
  The proposed submission date for the grant application is April 20, 2026.
